Park employees and members of the Friends of Maybury State Park celebrated the official ribbon-cutting of the two recently-installed EnChroma Viewfinders.
“I want to thank the Rotary, Anonymous Donor, and the Friends group for supporting our project for the EnChroma viewers,” said Joseph Wrobel, President of the Friends of Maybury. “[The viewers] will make a positive difference for the future.”
Kale Leftwich, Maybury Park Supervisor continued, “And the park wanted to thank the Friends, the DNR, Michelle O’Kelly, the staff, the Rotary, and anyone who had anything to do with this.”
The viewfinders are equipped with EnChroma lenses that enable those with red-green color blindness to experience a broader spectrum of clear, vibrant, distinct color. Everyone who uses the viewfinders will experience image magnification as with binoculars.
Locations of these viewfinders:
- Southeast side of pond on boardwalk near trail marker #8
- On Bluebird Meadow Trail, 100 yards southeast of the headquarters building
Bill McKnight, one of the founders and first secretary of the Friends of Maybury, happens to be colorblind and came to the unveiling to try out the viewfinder. Looking out across the meadow at the forest, McKnight exclaimed, “Well, I can see a red tree!”

The specially equipped EnChroma Viewfinders were made possible by:
- The Friends of Maybury State Park
- The Northville Rotary Foundation
- Anonymous Private Donation
